Blackburn Bound with a Bioficient 1
Friday, 03 August 2018
Towards the end of June a team of our experienced installation engineers found themselves Blackburn bound to install a brand new Klargester Bioficient 1 to replace and old and failing Septic Tank.
When our contracts Manager Ian Murray attended in February he was asked to provide a quotation and conclude the best possible solution for this particular property.
Upon initial inspection the old Septic tank had run its course and was no longer working as designed, it was also agreed with site that a like for like tank installation was not an option due to the heavy ground conditions on site which would mean a soakaway/ drainage field would constantly be at risk of flooding.
With this in mind the only suitable option was to install a package sewage treatment plant with a discharge to the nearby watercourse which the customer had sought approval for prior to our attendance to site.
We proposed to install the new system alongside the old to be able to utilise the existing inlet pipework with a new inspection chamber to be situated along the run. The new outlet drainage was to be installed under the boundary post and wire fence, through the neighbours’ garden and to the ditch running along the boundary. We also opted to install a partial drainage field prior to the ditch to allow for changes in seasons.
The machinery we utilised for this job was a 5 ton Excavator, 3 ton Dumper and a Mini digger.
The 5 ton Excavator was required for both lifting of the new sewage treatment plant off the transport vehicle along with the groundworks required for both the larger tank excavation and the trenches for the pipework.
The Dumper was another great help on this site as all of the excavated spoil was to be moved to the other end of the property to allow for a grab wagon to access to take it away.
Last but not least the mini digger came into its own for the narrow and tricky parts of the trench work where the larger machine would not have been able to access as easily.
Throughout the trench excavation works we were asked to try (as best as we could) to remove the turf from the surface and relay once the installation works were complete… Now as we have all probably heard about at least 1 million times over the past few months – the weather has been corking hot! And this did not work as well in our favour as the grass was already scorched from the heatwave. But even still I think our installation did a pretty fantastic job!
In all aspects of our work we utilise our joint experience in respective fields to ensure all of our jobs run as smoothly as possible.
