Blasted Baffles to BioTec Brilliance
Wednesday, 26 September 2018
In the fresh spring months of 2018 the R A Dalton contracts managers were as busy as ever carrying out site visits for numerous different scenarios; amongst these there was a property that was having major concerns that the structure of their septic tank had been compromised.
The customer first became aware of the issue when their regular emptying contractor had attended to desludge the tank where they noticed there was a considerable amount of surface water entering the tank through a suspected crack in the surface wall.
When our contracts manager Alan Law attended in April the tank was soon condemned, there were two major issued outlined during his visit, the first being that the inner baffles had completely collapsed within the tank; the second issue was a high water table which had only amplified the issues and had potentially caused further damage.
The existing tank was located in the lowest point in the garden and with the water table only being 300mm from the cover surface it was not recommended to replace the tank on a like for like basis as we anticipated the same issues would occur again.
For this site we recommended that a BioTec 1, 1m invert package sewage treatment plant with a direct discharge to the nearby watercourse. This was the best long term solution for the property as it was unlikely that a soakaway would be plausible due to the ground porosity.
Due to the levels we were also required to install a pump as the distance and falls would not have allowed for a gravity flow. Overall for this property there was over 50m of 4” pipework installed and 35m of 50mm rising main.
This was another site that outlined the importance of checking your levels as if this tank had been installed with a gravity outlet it is unlikely that the system would be able to discharge the treated effluent efficiently which would eventually mean the system would back up culminating in the risk of the system discharging untreated effluent into the watercourse and completely flooding the unit.
Here at R A Dalton the installation commissioning is not the end of the road, we also offer servicing and desludging contracts to all of our customers ensuring that your system remains compliant and functioning efficiently.
