Saving the pennies!

Tuesday, 08 May 2018

Amongst our many return customers we have a multitude of Building contractors that use us to propose a solution for the off mains drainage on both new builds and for renovation projects. Our experienced contracts managers provide the necessary insight required to make an informed and cost effective decision on which is the most logical system to install.

In April 2017 we were asked to attend a site for a company we regularly work alongside where we were required to provide a quotation to suit 1 no. 5 Bedroom property and 1 no. 3 Bedroom property. After discussions with both the client directly and the Builders we provided a selection of options for them to choose from, all varying in budget and suitability.

The system we recommended as the most suitable was a Premier Tech Aqua ASP12 Sewage treatment plant which would offer the capacity required to serve both the proposed houses. The ideal location to install this system was in the driveway with a Heavy Duty cover and frame to allow the residents to be able to park their cars there still.

Along the outfall from the sewage treatment plant we recommended that a Pump station was installed to pump the treated effluent to the soakaway in the garden to the rear of the property. To reach this area we would have needed to excavate along the driveway, alongside the property and 15m into the rear garden.
Based on the percolation test results the soakaway was required to be approximately 80 linear metres based on the trench being 600mm deep and 600mm wide.

One of the other alternatives was to install a Septic tank instead of the package treatment plant which was costed for upon request of the property owner, we did however recommend that the treatment plant was likely to be the more effective solution in the long run.

The last option was to install two separate Sewage treatment plants - one for each property. The two separate systems would have proven quite costly to both install and maintain. Although it is understandable that many people would rather only have to worry about their own contributions to the costs on their tank whilst not relying on their neighbour paying their part, if an agreement can be made between all the parties there are many savings that can be made if the servicing and desludging costs are split.

Needless to say after meetings with both the residents and the Building contractors we were asked to install the ASP12 package sewage treatment plant to serve both properties. In early December last year we were finally prepared to start the necessary works.

Our installation team worked in the brisk winter months to get the installation completed to a high standard before the festive season came in full force. Needless to say we had full confidence Santa could park his sleigh on this driveway!

Our aim with all of our sites is to find best possible solution for any of their off-mains sewage needs, if you would like to have a chat with one of our contracts managers why not give us a call on 01388 537030.

Feedback From Satisfied Customers

  • I have recently had a new sewage system installed at one of my sites which wasn't a straight forward job due to it being located in a private field, we had to make sure the owner, as well as our residents were happy with the proposals. Ian Murray met me on site on 2 occasions, with the owner of the field ans was very professional and explained exactly what would be happening, putting the field owners mind at rest. The job went to plan with no unexpected costs and minimal disruption to the field. Very happy customer!
