One year on – Celebrating Wastewater compliance
If you have followed our blogs previously you may remember this installation where we installed a new Klargester Bioficient 1 to replace a non-compliant septic tank – see more here. The new package sewage treatment plant has now been installed a year and in March 2024 it was time for the system’s first service!
In order to keep in line with the Klargester extended warranty the system had been installed and commissioned by a Klargester accredited installer (ourselves) and in order to keep this going it was essential that the routine maintenance and emptying was continued in line with the manufacturer’s recommendations.

The Klargester Bioficient 1
This Klargester Bioficient 1 is a 6-population equivalent sewage treatment plant designed to suit up to a 4-bedroom property or a small commercial operation. The system is designed and certified in line with BS EN12566-3 to allow for a discharge to the nearby watercourse without the requirement for an Environment Agency permit (excluding SSSI, GPZ etc) therefore it is vital to ensure that the system is appropriately serviced so the effluent quality is controlled and not causing pollution.
These smaller systems require a full electrical and mechanical service every 12 months to ensure the system is operating efficiently, this also helps identify any potential issues that may occur and any parts that may need replacing.

- Media condition
- Diffuser pipework

During this service we are also able to replace the systems’ consumable parts when necessary, during this service our experienced servicing engineer replaced the filter and diaphragms which are not only necessary as part of good standard procedure but also a requirement to conform to the blower’s individual manufacturers warranty.
As a wastewater proprietor it is your responsibility to ensure that you keep an accurate record of all maintenance and emptying carried out on your sewage treatment plant, this may be required if you ever need to prove compliance with the 2020 General Binding Rules.
