Get the motor running – KEE remedial success.
Upon receipt of a call out from a hotel in Southern Scotland one of our servicing engineers attended site to assess an issue being experienced with the old KEE sewage treatment plant causing the system to trip the electrics. Following some diagnostic checks and an overview of the system’s current operational capabilities it was determined that some remedial works needed to be undertaken.
The issue we identified was in relation to the motor gearbox, which was no longer able to operate efficiently, the aged component needed replacement and to bring the unit back to a complaint operational standard with some adjustments also required.
Supply of a Bauer motor gearbox
Due to the age of the motor gearbox itself a direct replacement was not available therefore a new suitable equivalent was sought out and ordered, this in itself required some adjustments to the unit in order to for the motor to be sited in the correct position. To rectify this a new bed plate was to be installed for the mounts to be adjusted accordingly.
The job itself was no easy task as the new motor gearbox weighed 100kg on its own!
Sewage treatment plant remedials
Once the engineers were assigned the job to carry out the required remedial works it was all systems go to get the system back up and running efficiently.
Upon arrival on site, we removed the chain from the system and unbolted the motor, this allowed our team to lift out the motor and remove the top sprocket from the shaft. In order to utilize a lot of the still functional parts the old top sprocket was then fit to the new Bauer gearbox.
Adjustments to the bolts were then made to receive the new bed plate, the new plate was then installed ready to receive the new unit. Due to the weight a tractor was required to lift it into position, once this was done the motor was aligned with the bottom sprocket and our engineers refit the chain.
Once the new motor gearbox was installed the system underwent a full mechanical and electrical service with the grease cartridges being refreshed on the bearings. The last thing required to get this system to an efficient operational standard was for the unit to be emptied in full, this will kick start the treatment process allowing the system to operate as designed.
