Private Pumping Solutions

Connections to mains sewer come in many scopes, what is required is determined through the exact site requirements. Two properties in County Durham were looking at a compliant solution to connection the local water authority mains sewer so had to identify an exact proposal that would be functional and efficient to handle the wastewater from the property.

A preliminary site investigation was conducted prior to the works being quoted where our contracts manager was able to identify the location for the new installation and also the possible proposed connection point.

Klargester PU1220TS package pump station

The pump station we proposed to install to suit the application is a Klargester PU1220 Twin sewage package pump station, this would intercept the existing inlet drainage line with the new system installed to receive all the raw sewage from the two properties.

This system was designed to handle the daily flow from the two properties whilst being able to lift the waste on a static lift of 4 metres over a distance of 85 metres to the proposed connection point. Whilst under normal conditions this would be a straightforward task.

Hand excavation of the remaining rising main

The rising main pipework was to be installed through to the left-hand side of the gravel drive and garden before crossing into the neighbouring property, due to the number of services identified on the utility plans there was a section of works that needed to be excavated by hand to try and avoid any pipes/ cables that may be in the working area.

The rising main then terminated in a demarcation chamber to slow the flow prior to the connection point, a short length of drainage to gravity flow into the mains sewer. This connection point was within private property therefore did not require any traffic management or a Section 50 license, the installation was carried out following an easement obtained by the customer to cross the neighbouring property’s land.
