When the job gets a little ‘Rocky’ – send in the Breaker!

When working in certain areas in the country or even in the landscape it is always important to understand the possibility of hitting different ground conditions. For one property based in a very picturesque are of County Durham our installation team was assigned a job to install a new Premier Tech Aqua ASP8 package sewage treatment plant.

The 5 bedroom property was set on the border of the River tees and the mature, landscaped garden was were the existing septic tank was located. Unfortunately, this septic tank was not compliant with the new 2020 General Binding Rules, we therefore recommended to install the new sewage treatment plant and modify the existing inlet and outlet drainage.

Breaking ground on the riverbed.

Due to the close proximity of the riverbed to the new installation location we knew there was a good chance we would come across rocks, with this in mind we provided our installation team with a 5 ton Excavator and breaker.

However, even with the breaker the going was slow! When contending with boulders and riverbed conditions it was steady away and large rocks meant our excavation was a considerable amount larger than was desirable.

Taking this into account more concrete was required to fill the voids around the tank to full encase it and protect against potential ground water issues.

The Premier Tech ASP8.

Once the premier tech ASP8 was installed in a full concrete surround the next port of call was to install the drainage, this was just as complicated with as the tank installation – a lot of the drainage required a smaller machine to access. The best course of drainage included going through a tree line and under an archway to the riverbed.

Once the new tank and drainage was installed the old was disconnected and the existing septic tank was decommissioned, we left site with the property now compliant with the General binding rules.
