The pumped route to mains sewer

Through the field, down the lane and across the road

The aim of all projects undertaken by R A Dalton is to supply a sustainable, long term solution to handle the waste management on site, the scope in which we carry out the work is dependent on the requirements for each job.

Each proposal we provide is on the basis of delivering a compliant wastewater solution that achieves conformity with all relevant rules, regulations and guidelines. Due to the ever-increasing availability of the mains drainage network and following the criteria set out in the 2020 General Binding Rules we are finding the requirement to connect to mains sewer becoming a lot more prevalent.

A recent project we undertook in the North Riding of Yorkshire required a new package pump station to be installed to connect to the mains sewer.

Klargester PU1825TG package pump station

The Klargester PU1825TG package pump station was selected to suit the visitor centre; working alongside Klargester to ensure the unit was designed correctly and fit for purpose.

The estimated daily flow was calculated using the British Water flows and loads  4, this was based on suiting 200 café covers, 100 additional WC users and 5 no. day staff, therefore the volume was calculated to be circa 4.45m3 per day.

Another factor that needs to be taken into consideration, is the distance and lift of the required pump station, for this site the waste would be travelling 280 metres over a static lift of 4 metres. Our initial budget quotation was based on an assumed depth of the mains sewer, once we had received the approval to proceed with the works, we were able to attain the sewer maps which confirmed the depth where we would be connecting at.

Another requirement for this site was that chemical dosing needed to be installed to prevent septicity entering the mains sewer.

Connection to mains sewer

The new connection location was located within the highway and the route of the rising main needed to cover over 280 metres through the field, down the lane and across the road.

When looking at this kind of project we understand that there is a likelihood that additional surveys may need to be undertaken such as radar surveys to confirm whether the works are likely to have an impact on existing services in the area and also further clarification on where the utilities are.

All applications, licenses and service plans were compiled by R A Dalton to ensure an effective installation with due care and attention taken for the surrounding area. The full project was undertaken by R A Dalton from the initial site visits, application process and even the groundworks – rest assured if you choose R A Dalton we will handle all elements of your connection to mains sewer application.
