Commissioning of Pump Station with Remote GSM Monitoring

RA Dalton recently installed and commissioned a Klargester PU1230TG Pump Station on a coastal site near Sunderland to enhance operational efficiency and real-time monitoring for wastewater management. The project involved setting up a reliable system at a site 30 meters from the nearest power source. With full GSM monitoring capabilities, the installation ensures improved control, and proactive maintenance alerts.

Installation of GSM Remote Monitoring Equipment

  1. GSM Integration and Monitoring Setup

To enable real-time monitoring and automated control of the pump station, we installed a 24V relay to detect power loss or control malfunctions. This ensures that if there is any disruption in the power supply or control system, immediate alarms are triggered to notify the operator. We also wired up the GSM device and installed it within the kiosk, setting it up to monitor key parameters such as power loss, high-level alarms, and pump trip alarms.

  1. Testing the System

Once the installation was complete, we conducted thorough testing to ensure the system’s operational integrity. We worked closely with the Kingspan SmartServ Unit to verify that all the GSM features were correctly set up. The GSM monitoring system successfully detected power loss, high-level alarms, and pump trips, and all systems were confirmed to be fully functional.

During the installation, we used high-quality components to ensure the reliability and performance of the system:

  • Kingspan SmartServ Unit GSM
This smart unit provides the core GSM functionality, allowing remote monitoring and control of the pump station. It plays a key role in ensuring operational efficiency and rapid response to any system alerts.
  • Finder Relay Base for GSM
This relay base ensures a secure connection for the relay and facilitates the operation of the GSM monitoring system.
  • Finder 24V Relay for GSM 2P, 8A
The 24V relay is used for loss of power detection and triggering alarms, providing real-time alerts when necessary.
  • Additional Components:
    • 2 meters of 0.75mm 2-core flex cable for wiring connections.

A Reliable Solution for Wastewater Management

The installation of the GSM-PU1230TG Pump Station was a success, providing the site with an efficient and dependable system for wastewater management. With the added benefit of GSM monitoring, the system offers real-time alerts and increased operational control, ensuring peace of mind for our clients.

Commissioning of the PU1230TG Pump Station

The commissioning of the PU1230TG Pump Station was a multi-step process designed to ensure that the station was fully operational and set up to provide reliable wastewater management. Despite some challenges along the way, our team handled everything with professionalism, ensuring that the system worked perfectly once completed.

Step-by-step Commissioning Process

  1. Cable Pulling and Initial Setup
The first step involved pulling all necessary cables through the duct from the pump station to the kiosk. As we began setting up, we discovered that the kiosk was too small to house the GSM monitoring system as initially planned. While this was an unexpected challenge, we adapted by continuing with the wiring of the control panel and mains supply into a rotary switch.

However, the rotary switch we had on hand was too small for the 6mm cable, so we decided to repurpose it as a junction box. Fortunately, there is a rotary isolation switch on the front of the panel, ensuring proper isolation of the system.

2. Installing Control Components
We proceeded with installing the junction box inside the tank and fitting all four control floats through the hanger. Once the floats and control panels were in place, we proceeded to wire the pumps and floats, ensuring that everything was set up for testing.

  1. Troubleshooting During Testing
During the initial tests, we encountered a minor issue: one of the pumps wasn’t operating as expected. After inspecting the control panel, we identified that the auxiliary contactor/overload was faulty. Our team quickly replaced the faulty part with a new one, ensuring the system was ready for full operation.
  2. Final Testing and System Operation
With the faulty component replaced, we tested the system once more. We are pleased to report that the system is now fully operational, with all pumps and controls functioning as expected. The PU1230TG Pump Station is ready to perform reliably for its intended purpose.

A Smooth Commissioning Process with RA Dalton

The commissioning of the PU1230TG Pump Station was a success, with our team working through the challenges and ensuring that the system was up and running flawlessly. With all components tested and fully operational, the pump station is now prepared to serve its intended purpose, providing reliable wastewater management for the customer.
